An opportunity has arisen for a clinical leadershipin Speech and Language Therapyfor Surgery and Critical Care services within the York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
As a clinical lead, you will work closely withspeech and language therapistsand multi-professional colleagues across the Trust, to ensure high qualityspeech and languagecare is provided for all patientsin the service. You will alsohave the opportunity to influence change in the service delivery, working effectively in smaller teams to lead improvement and innovation across different pathways.
This an excellent opportunity to expand your clinical knowledge within Critical Care and Surgery including voice/ENTalongsideexpandingyour skills across each of the Four Pillars of Practice.This role has a strong component of leading clinical transformation and improvement projects across clinical areas within the service.There will be opportunities to engage in research, present your workand lecture in the areas of your clinical expertise.You will also be expected to support the learning and development of otherspeech and language therapistsand multi-professional colleaguesthrough training, supervision, reflective practice and other evidence based approaches to adult learning.
You will join a friendly team of over20 speech and language therapists. You will be primarily based at York Hospital and will travel to Scarborough and other Trust localities regularly.
You will be part of a supportive seniorSpeech and Languageleadership team, including otherClinicalLeadSpeech and Language Therapists, aTeam Manager, as well asSenior Operational Managerand Speech and Language Therapy Professional Lead.
You will provide clinical leadership for a team that includes registeredspeech and language therapists, assistant practitionersand support workers. Excellent team working and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work autonomously to assess and manage a caseload of complexpatients.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate leadershipcapabilities reaching beyond their clinical area of expertise. You need to be resilient and able to manage and prioritise your caseload whilst supporting the work and development of the team, managing conflicting demands using your prioritisation, organisation and communication skills and proposing solutions to complex problems.
TheSpeech and Language Therapydepartment provide clinical inpatient and outpatient services to a variety of specialities, includingCritical Care, Voice and ENT and Head and Neck Oncology. The department is well established in facilitating the training ofSpeech and Language Therapystudents and staff are involved in delivering a variety of rolling training programmes for other health care professionals across the Trust, relating toeating, drinking and communication.
