Location: Scarborough – Scarborough General Hospital

Contract: Permanent (full time)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, various shift patterns.

Salary: £25,272 per annum (pro rata).

Main duties of the job:

  • Maintain cleanliness in the assigned ward/area following the work schedule.
  • Lift items and operate cleaning machinery, including industrial and standard equipment.
  • Undertake specialist cleaning as directed by the Facilities Supervisor, Nurse in Charge or Infection Prevention Department.
  • Assist with distribution of meals to wards.
  • Plate up meals, ensuring dietary requirements of patients are met.
  • Make and distribute hot drinks and clean and refill water jugs.

Experience & Knowledge Required:

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in the cleaning industry.
  • Previous experience working in the NHS.
  • Able to use small and large equipment such as regeneration ovens, dishwashers and floor machinery.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Capable of working alone and with others as part of a team, using initiative.

Education, Qualifications and Training:

  • Good basic education, including reading, writing and basic numeracy.
  • Willingness to complete infection prevention and control training; Food Hygiene Level 2.
  • Customer service training (or to be completed within six months of start).
  • BICSc Qualification / NVQ Level 2 in Cleaning/Catering or equivalent.
  • Training in industrial cleaning equipment.
