Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be based at Scarborough Hospital but must be willing to work at any of the Trust's sites. The role requires flexibility with working hours and includes appropriate health and safety training.

Responsibilities:

  • Use of general building services knowledge and maintenance skills backed by a BTech, City and Guilds Craft Certificate or NVQ3 in plumbing or related discipline.
  • Work collaboratively with skilled and semi-skilled maintenance colleagues.
  • Demonstrate experience working in a maintenance environment, and be reliable, resilient, enthusiastic, motivated, and able to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • Participate in an on-call/out of hours rota with additional payment.
  • Transport equipment across the community during working hours.

Person specification

Education, Qualifications and Training

  • Completed an accredited trade-specific Building Services apprenticeship (3-4 years) in Carpentry & Joinery, Bricklaying or Plumbing & Heating/Environmental.
  • Current driving licence with no 12-point accumulation in any 3-year period (or no 6 points in first 2 years for new drivers).
  • Ability to complete further qualifications in Carpentry, Bricklaying and Plumbing & Heating/Environmental to become a multi-disciplinary individual.

Experience

  • Gained specialist expertise in Building Services and knowledge across technical subjects in commercial (non-residential) settings.
  • Knowledge of specialist hospital water and drainage systems.
  • Knowledge of legal requirements in building services.

DBS Checks: New employees will incur the cost of DBS checks, deducted from salary either in one payment or over six months. Charges currently £27.38 for a standard check and £55.38 for an enhanced check. The level of check will be determined by the post. Volunteering and bank-only staff will not be charged. The Disclosure and Barring Service offers a confidential checking service for transgender applicants under the Gender Recognition Act 2004.
