York Teaching Hospital Facilities Management (YTHFM) are looking for an approachable and flexible Cleaning & Catering Operative to join our team at our Nelson's Court Unit Community Site.

The various shifts are available for this location:

Monday to Friday: 1400-2000, 27.5 hours a week;

Monday to Friday: 1600-2000, 20 hours a week;

Saturday and Sunday: 0800-1300, 10 hours a week;

Saturday and Sunday: 1400-2000, 11 hours a week.

Main duties of the job

The main responsibilities of the role are maintaining levels of cleanliness throughout a designated area, and provide a catering service.

Your duties will include, but are not limited to;

  • Ensuring that the ward/area you are assigned to is cleaned in accordance with the work schedule for that area. This will include lifting items and operating cleaning machinery, some of which is industrial standard
  • Undertaking specialist cleaning as required under the guidance of the Facilities Supervisor and/or Nurse in Charge and/or Infection Prevention Department
  • Assisting plating up of meals, ensuring the dietary requirements of patients are met
  • Making and distributing hot drinks and cleaning and refilling water jugs

You will work without immediate supervision so must be able to prioritise and use your own initiative. Tasks may need to be completed under time and other pressures, but you will maintain standards and pride in your work.

We are looking for people who are able to read, write and converse in English. You will also have a basic understanding of/are willing to complete appropriate qualifications and training in:

  • Knowledge of cleaning procedures
  • COSSH procedures
  • Infection prevention and control
  • Relevant water systems training
  • Use of equipment such as regeneration ovens, dishwashers and floor machines

Qualifications & Training

  • Good basic education - reading and writing plus basic numeric skills.
  • A willingness to complete appropriate qualifications or training relevant to the role as and when required.
  • BICSc Qualification/NVQ Level 2 in Cleaning/Catering or equivalent

Experience & Knowledge

  • An understanding of the importance of hygiene
  • An understanding of the importance of health and safety COSHH procedures Infection prevention and control Knowledge of the safe use of cleaning equipment/machinery
  • Use, experience and knowledge of computer technologies (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Experience in a similar role or industry

Skills, Attributes and Physical Requirements

  • Ability to organize and priortise work effectively
  • Ability to work on own initiative with minimum supervision
  • Ability to demonstrate tolerance and empathy with employees and clients at all times
