We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Junior Medical Engineering Technician to join our dynamic team within the York Teaching Hospitals Facilities Management LLP. In this role you will assist in the maintenance, calibration, and repair of a diverse range of medical devices, ensuring compliance with MHRA guidelines and ISO9001/2015 standards. You will support the senior technicians and engineers in routine inspections, troubleshooting equipment issues, and documenting all activities accurately. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical aptitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient care and safety. You must hold a UK driving licence for a manual car and medium-sized vehicles.

Main duties of the job

  • Planning, organising, and delivering routine maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Performing Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) on non-complex medical equipment.
  • Conducting fault diagnosis and technical intervention.
  • Attaining required training standards for maintaining medical devices.
  • Adhering to procedures and policies.
  • Utilising technical skills such as hand-eye coordination, dexterity, manual labour, including lifting equipment and using hand tools.
  • Managing medical device records by updating databases and providing occasional non-clinical advice.
  • Implementing and proposing changes to departmental practices.
  • Maintaining physical assets and equipment.
  • Ensuring stock control and security.

Development and training opportunities are available for candidates with the appropriate levels of good aptitude and role. Applicants that do not have the knowledge and skills IAW the essential criteria may be offered a trainee grade defined by the NHS Terms and Conditions of Service Handbook.

Education, Qualifications and Training

  • GCSE in Maths and English grade C or above.
  • Level 3 qualification in an engineering such as Electrical/MedTech/Maintenance or similar.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Competent IT skills, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Valid driving licence (manual geared vehicle) for cars and medium-sized vehicles.
  • Experience of cleaning and decontamination.
  • Working in a technical capacity in a healthcare environment.

Skills and Attributes

  • Knowledge of following procedures and policies within a quality management certificated environment.
