Position Title: Part-Time Cleaner

School: York Steiner School

Reports To: Operations Officer

Working Hours: average 8 hours per week (flexible working arrangements can be mutually agreed)

Contract Type: All Year Round

Pay Rate: Β£12.71/hour

Start Date: Immediate

Job Purpose

To provide a high standard of cleaning and hygiene services throughout the school premises. The role is vital in ensuring a clean, safe, healthy, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

Daily Cleaning Routine:

Sweep, mop, vacuum across classrooms, corridors, offices, and assembly halls.

Dust, wipe down, and polish surfaces, desks, tables, windowsills, and fixtures.

Washroom & Hygiene Maintenance:

Thoroughly clean and disinfect washrooms, toilets, sinks, and sanitary fittings.

Replenish essential supplies including soap, hand towels, and toilet paper.

Waste & Litter Management:

Empty rubbish bins and recycling units daily, disposing of waste in designated external collection areas.

Health & Safety Compliance:

Adhere to Health & Safety policies, COSHH regulations (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health), and safe working practices at all times.

Ensure correct and safe storage of all cleaning chemicals, tools, and equipment.

Promptly report any maintenance issues, hazards, damaged fixtures, or safety concerns to the Operations Officer.

Periodic Deep Cleaning:

Participate in deep cleaning / light decorating activities during school holiday periods.

Person Specification & Requirements

Experience: Previous cleaning experience in a school, commercial, or institutional environment is preferred, but full training will be provided.

Knowledge: Basic understanding of Health & Safety standards and chemical safety (COSHH) is desirable. Training will be provided.

Skills & Attributes:

Punctual, dependable, and self-motivated with high standards of cleanliness.

Ability to work independently as well as part of a small team.

Good communication skills and a polite, approachable manner.

Physical Capability: Ability to perform physical tasks (bending, lifting, stretching, and standing for the duration of the shift).
