The School Geography is located within the School of Humanities, alongside subjects such as Politics, International Relations, History, Sociology, Media and Film, English Literature, Creative Writing, Religion and more. Our burgeoning national and international research profile, excellent teaching and learning, and welcoming and inclusive ethos supports an exceptional student experience.

From its establishment in 2014, Geography has grown substantially. Alongside our undergraduate programmes in Geography, Environmental Geography and Human Geography, we now offer the MA Environment and Social Justice (from 2023) and MSc Environmental Management and Sustainability (new for this year), and support a small number of doctoral students. All staff are active in research and publication, attracting increasing levels of research funding. We offer a highly collegial environment, committed to providing an exceptional experience for our students.

The Role

We are seeking a full-time lecturer in physical geography with expertise in geomorphology and hydrology. Your work will include teaching across all levels of undergraduate and postgraduate provision, module leadership, setting and marking assessments, and the provision of pastoral and academic support to students. Teaching will encompass both solo-taught and team-taught modules and will include teaching in the laboratory and field, with both residential and non-residential fieldwork. The successful candidate will be encouraged and supported to develop their profile in research and knowledge exchange, contributing to our growing research environment.

Key requirements

  • A completed PhD with expertise in geomorphology and hydrology.
  • Ability to deliver high quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  • An emerging record of research in a relevant area.
  • Commitment to collegial and collaborative working across the discipline and beyond.
  • A personal commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, meeting the needs of a diverse student body.
  • Ability to contribute to teaching GIS and/or quantitative methods would be advantageous.

There will be a clear expectation that the successful candidate will work towards Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy if this is not already held.
