Consultant in Respiratory Medicine

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

We invite consultants to apply for a position within the dynamic Respiratory department at York Hospital. This is an exciting time to join our department as we continue to expand and develop our sub-specialties.

We are looking for a passionate consultant who is eager to further their chosen sub-specialty while supporting general respiratory patients in outpatient and inpatient settings. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop a specialist interest to complement the other members of the department. We welcome applicants with interests in interstitial lung disease, bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, sleep and NIV, and respiratory failure.

We offer a severe asthma clinic, TB clinic, lung cancer service, Long COVID clinic, Sleep/NIV service, and Cystic Fibrosis service. We are soon to begin a local Lung Cancer Screening Programme across our Trust, working collaboratively across the primary/secondary care interface to develop integrated approaches to delivering respiratory care.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for friendly, enthusiastic, and dynamic individuals to develop inpatient and outpatient services. There may be scope for additional programmed activities, clarified during the recruitment process.

Whole-time, part-time, or job share applications are welcome. We are committed to supporting flexible job plans and will work with you to mutually agree your activity commitment. Candidates will contribute to the General Medical on-call rota, with a separate respiratory on-call rota envisaged in the long term.

There are also opportunities for research and teaching within your specialist field as we work closely with Hull York Medical School (HYMS). This includes participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervising resident doctors and allied health professionals.
