Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity to expand and develop our Theatre and PACU clinical education team. As we look to grow our education team we are looking for somebody with at least 3 years theatre and/or PACU experience. We would be really interested to hear from Operating Department Practitioners and Anaesthetic Nurses with experience in working in anaesthetics, as well as those with scrub and PACU experience. You will work as part of our theatre education team to contribute to devising, developing, delivering and evaluating plans of education, competency-based training programs and support activities relating to clinical practice education, training and development, and multi-professional team working. You will support all nursing staff and operating department practitioners, registered and non-registered, working across the wider in the theatre and PACU environment. Our education team in theatres and PACU collaborate across all hospital sites in our trust, we are looking for 2 band 6 Clinical educators, one will be based on the East coast (Scarborough and Bridlington) and one based at York. There will be an element of cross-site working required to meet the service needs.

Main duties of the job

To develop and deliver core and additional clinical skills and training programmes across all Theatre and PACU Care Group Surgery settings, demonstrating a sound teaching approach utilising mixed media, simulation, and creating a positive learning environment that supports the training needs of the service and organisation. The post holder will be required to plan and organise the training equipment and book training dates and venues as appropriate in collaboration with colleagues within the wider teams.

Person specification

Experience & Knowledge

  • At least 3 years post registration experience in a Theatre or Post Anaesthetic Care setting.
  • Working with a wide range of professionals.
  • Awareness of current issues in Health Care Standards of Professional Practice.

Qualifications & Training

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration (Level 1) OR Registered Operating Department Practitioner with HCPC registration.
  • Recognised teaching certificate or equivalent experience.
  • Educated to degree level.
  • Willing to undergo training as necessary to undertake role.
  • Evidence of CPD relevant to current role.
  • Teaching qualification or willingness to work towards.
  • Practice experience across acute settings.
  • Previous experience of delivering clinical training or support e.g. Link Trainer/Nurse.
