£55,000 - £60,000
Monday to Friday - Days

Yolk Recruitment is proud to represent an established manufacturing business in the Chepstow in their search for a Controls Systems Engineer.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Controls Engineer to take technical ownership of the site's PLC and automation systems. You'll work closely with the Production Engineering team, Project Engineer and robotics specialist, while providing high-level controls support to the wider maintenance function.

Position Overview:

As the Controls Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for programming, developing and fault-finding across the site's control systems. The key requirement is the ability to program Siemens PLCs from scratch using TIA Portal, rather than solely modifying existing programs.

The site also operates Beckhoff and legacy Mitsubishi PLCs alongside ABB robotic systems. This is a hands‑on, factory-based role offering flexible start and finish times, with no night shifts.

This is what you'll be doing.

  • Programming Siemens PLCs from scratch using TIA Portal
  • Developing, modifying and improving existing control systems
  • Diagnosing complex PLC, automation and electrical control faults
  • Providing controls and technical support to the maintenance team
  • Working closely with the Project Engineer and Production Engineering team
  • Supporting automation projects, machinery upgrades and new installations
  • Working with Beckhoff and legacy Mitsubishi PLC systems
  • Supporting ABB robotic systems, including IRC5 and OmniCore platforms
  • Providing technical input into machinery safety and safety control systems
  • Identifying opportunities to improve equipment reliability, performance and efficiency
  • Supporting production with complex automation and control issues

The experience you'll bring to the team.

  • The ability to program from scratch using Siemens TIA Portal
  • Previous controls or automation experience within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong PLC fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  • A practical and hands‑on approach to engineering problems
  • A time-served electrical, maintenance or engineering background would be advantageous
  • ABB robotics experience, particularly IRC5 or OmniCore, would be highly desirable
  • Beckhoff or Mitsubishi PLC experience would be beneficial
  • Knowledge of machinery safety systems or safety PLCs would be advantageous
  • Experience within batch production or a similar manufacturing environment would be beneficial

And this is what you'll get in return.

  • Salary of £55,000 to £60,000, depending on experience
  • Permanent Monday-to-Friday position
  • Days-based working with no night shifts
  • Flexible start and finish times
  • Potential working pattern of 6am to 2pm, subject to operational requirements
  • Employer pension contribution believed to be circa 10%
  • Private medical insurance
  • Health Shield healthcare cash plan
  • Contributions towards dentistry, opticians and physiotherapy
  • Death-in-service cover of six times salary
  • Permanent position with an established manufacturing business
