Yolk Recruitment are supporting a leading manufacturing organisation with the recruitment of a Machine Operator to join their specialist On-Site Rolling team in Cardiff.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Production Operative or Machine Operator looking for something a little different from a traditional factory-based role.

You’ll be based primarily at the Cardiff manufacturing facility, operating specialist roll-forming machinery to produce high-quality roofing and cladding products. Once fully trained, you’ll also travel with colleagues to customer project sites throughout the UK, where products are manufactured directly on location using specialist equipment.

This is what you'll be doing

As a Machine Operator, you'll work as part of the production team, supporting the safe and efficient manufacture of roofing and cladding products both at the Cardiff facility and on customer sites across the UK.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Setting, operating and monitoring specialist roll-forming machinery to manufacture roofing and cladding products.

  • Carrying out machine setups and changeovers to support different production runs and product requirements.

  • Monitoring machine performance and ensuring products are manufactured safely, accurately and efficiently.

  • Reading and following production instructions, technical drawings and product specifications.

  • Inspecting finished products using appropriate measuring and checking equipment to ensure quality standards are met.

  • Keeping machinery supplied with the correct raw materials to maintain production output and minimise downtime.

  • Identifying machinery faults, production issues or quality concerns and reporting these promptly to the Team Leader.

  • Travelling with colleagues to construction project sites across the UK to support on-site roll forming and manufacturing activities.

  • Assisting with the setup and operation of specialist machinery on customer sites following full training.

  • Maintaining a clean, safe and organised working environment, both at the Cardiff facility and on external sites.

The experience you'll bring

  • Previous experience working as a Machine Operator, Production Operative or Manufacturing Operative.

  • Experience operating machinery within a manufacturing, engineering or production environment.

  • A good understanding of production processes, quality standards and safe working procedures.

  • Ability to follow technical drawings, production instructions or manufacturing specifications.

  • Good attention to detail, with the ability to identify quality issues and maintain consistent standards.

  • A practical, hands-on approach and willingness to learn how to operate specialist roll-forming machinery.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Good numeracy and literacy skills.

  • A flexible approach to working hours and willingness to travel to customer sites across the UK.

  • Comfortable staying away from home overnight when required.

Working Hours & UK Travel

Your normal working hours will be Monday to Friday, 7:00am - 3:00pm, based at the Cardiff manufacturing facility.

Once fully trained, you'll also travel with colleagues to customer project sites throughout the UK, typically around every other week depending on project requirements.

Some projects will involve overnight stays, with accommodation provided and an additional overnight allowance paid. For sites within reasonable travelling distance, you'll return home the same day.

You won't be expected to travel or work on customer sites alone, as all site visits will be completed alongside other members of the team.

And this is what you'll get in return

  • Basic hourly rate of approximately £13.35, subject to confirmation.

  • Monday to Friday, 7:00am - 3:00pm standard working hours.

  • Additional overnight allowance for UK project visits requiring overnight stays.

  • Annual company bonus of up to 10% of salary, based on company performance.

  • 4 progression levels based on experience level with salary increases at each stage.

  • Full training on specialist roll-forming machinery and on-site manufacturing processes.

  • Genuine opportunities for career progression and development.

  • 24 days annual leave plus bank holidays, including Christmas shutdown.

  • Company pension - 4% employee / 5% employer contribution.
