In this role, you'll be the one turning bold game ideas into rock-solid backend systems, architecting and developing in C#, with a bit of C++ in your toolkit when needed. You'll take creative concepts, breathe life into them through smart algorithms and scalable code, helping to shape the technical backbone of games.

It's not just about building though...you'll also be guiding others, mentoring junior devs, and setting the standard for technical excellence. Working closely with designers, frontend engineers, and producers, you'll ensure features land smoothly and perform brilliantly. Whether it's designing for performance, weaving in randomness, or solving deep systems challenges, your mathematical mindset will be key to making it all work beautifully.

The ideal candidate will have been in the thick of it...building backend systems that don't just work, but perform under pressure. Maybe it was in games, maybe another high demand environment, but either way, you know what it takes to write clean, efficient, maintainable code that scales.

Maths and logic come naturally to you... you enjoy cracking problems that others shy away from, whether it's fine-tuning an algorithm or designing a system that just makes sense.

Along the way, you've led teams, mentored others, and earned trust not just through what you build, but how you communicate and solve problems.

Tech Stack:

  • C# / C++
  • GitLab, Jira
  • Microsoft Visual Studio / Excel
  • CI/CD workflows and debugging complex systems

Whether you're based near Cardiff or prefer to work remotely, I'd love to hear from developers who love making things work beautifully behind the scenes.

How to prepare for a job interview at Yolk Recruitment Ltd

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Yolk Recruitment Ltd uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
