Part-Time Financial Controller | Cardiff | 2 Days Per Week
Flexible Working | Forward-Thinking SME
Are you an experienced Financial Controller looking for a part-time opportunity where you can genuinely influence the direction of a growing business?
We're working with a forward-thinking SME in Cardiff that is looking to appoint a commercially minded Financial Controller to join the business on a part-time basis, working 2 days per week.
This is a hands-on yet highly strategic role, ideal for someone who enjoys being more than just the person behind the numbers. You'll work closely with senior stakeholders, providing meaningful financial insight, strengthening reporting and helping shape the future direction of the business.
The Role
As Financial Controller, you will take ownership of the financial reporting function while acting as a trusted business partner to the wider organisation.
You'll be responsible for:
- Leading and managing the day-to-day finance function.
- Producing accurate and insightful management reporting and financial information.
- Working closely with senior stakeholders to provide commercial insight and support decision-making.
- Business partnering across the organisation, challenging performance and identifying opportunities.
- Supporting the strategic financial planning and development of the business.
- Managing budgets, forecasts and financial performance.
- Improving financial processes, controls and reporting.
- Managing, developing and coaching a Finance Assistant, helping them grow and develop within the business.
- Supporting relationships with B2B clients across Europe and overseas markets.
- Working with Xero to maintain and develop efficient finance processes.
About You
We're looking for someone who is commercially focused, confident working with senior stakeholders and enjoys operating within an entrepreneurial SME environment.
Ideally, you will be:
- Qualified or QBE, with strong practical Financial Controller experience.
- Experienced within an SME or growing business where you have had genuine ownership of the finance function.
- Strong in management reporting, analysis and business partnering.
- Commercially minded, with the ability to turn financial information into actionable business insight.
- Experienced working with B2B customers, ideally across Europe and international markets.
- Comfortable using Xero.
- A confident communicator who can work effectively with both senior stakeholders and non-finance teams.
- An experienced people manager who enjoys developing and coaching junior finance talent.
- Based within a commutable distance of Cardiff, as the role requires you to be office-based 2 days per week.
Why This Role?
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Financial Controller who wants impact without the commitment of a traditional five-day week.
You'll have the opportunity to work closely with the leadership team, influence commercial decisions, develop the finance function and play a key role in supporting the continued growth of an ambitious SME.
If you're looking for a part-time Financial Controller role where your experience will genuinely make a difference, we'd love to hear from you.
