Newport, South Wales Negotiable

What You'll Do:

Yolk Recruitment is recruiting for a Facilities Engineer to join a large, technically advanced manufacturing operation in Newport. This role suits someone who likes variety and ownership. One day you could be coordinating planned facilities activity, the next responding to an unexpected plant or building issue where production needs a solution quickly.

A big part of the position is making sure outside contractors can come onto site and complete work safely. You'll be the person who understands what needs doing, challenges the proposed approach where necessary and makes sure the right controls are in place before work begins. You'll also coordinate an outsourced technical resource, adjusting support around the changing demands of the site rather than simply following a fixed maintenance schedule.

There's a much bigger opportunity behind the day job too. As you build your knowledge of the facility, you can start taking responsibility for smaller engineering projects such as refurbishments, redesigns and facility improvements. From there, the longer-term route is towards increasingly sophisticated capital projects within a highly technical manufacturing environment.

What You'll Bring:

  • The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering or facilities background coupled with the practical knowledge required to manage contractors safely within a live industrial environment.
  • Around five years or more of relevant engineering or facilities experience.
  • A background in manufacturing, engineering, construction or another highly regulated environment.
  • The confidence to manage contractors from initial scope through to safe completion of the work.
  • A practical understanding of permits to work, RAMS and safe systems of work.
  • Working knowledge of CDM 2015, particularly where facilities modifications and project work are concerned.
  • A recognised engineering or craft background. A time-served apprenticeship would be particularly attractive, although relevant graduate-qualified engineers with the right practical experience will also be considered.
  • Mechanical, electrical or broader facilities engineering knowledge.
  • Enough commercial awareness to deal effectively with suppliers, quotations, resources and competing priorities.
  • NEBOSH knowledge or qualification would be beneficial, particularly given the emphasis on contractor safety and control.

Why You Should Apply:

This is an opportunity to join a technically challenging manufacturing environment where facilities engineering plays a critical role in keeping production operating safely and efficiently. Importantly, you don't need to arrive as an expert in every aspect of the site's specialist environment. The business actively invests in training and is looking for someone with strong engineering fundamentals, good contractor-management capability and the potential to develop further.

This is an on-site role in Newport.

Ready to Apply?

If you're an experienced Facilities Engineer who enjoys taking ownership, managing contractors properly and solving problems within a fast-moving industrial environment, this could offer an excellent next step with significant scope for future development.

Contact Andy Jones to find out more. Please apply with a CV and a cover letter outlining why you're perfect for the role.

Note: We do our best to respond to every application, but due to volume, we can't always guarantee it. If you haven't heard back within 7 days, unfortunately, you haven't been successful this time. Keep an eye on our site for new opportunities!
