MERITUS are recruiting for a Quality Inspector to join our Precision Manufacturing client in their growing quality team in a permanent role.
A well-established and fast-growing precision manufacturing company is continuing to expand their quality function following sustained growth across aerospace, defence, and commercial engineering programmes. With increasing workload and new project demand, they are looking to appoint an experienced Quality Inspector / Quality Technician.
This is a hands-on inspection role suited to someone who enjoys working closely with production on the shop floor and can confidently take ownership of inspection activities with minimal supervision.
The Role
Reporting to the Quality Manager, you will be responsible for carrying out first-off, in-process, and final inspection activities across precision-machined components used within highly regulated engineering environments. This is not a purely documentation-focused quality role. The successful candidate will be physically inspecting components, interpreting engineering drawings independently, and making informed inspection decisions using conventional metrology equipment.
Key responsibilities include:
- First-off and final inspection of precision-machined components
- Batch control and inspection sign-off activities
- Interpretation of third-angle engineering drawings and tolerances
- Use of conventional inspection equipment including:
- Height gauges
- Internal and external micrometers
- Intrimics / ball micrometers
- Slip gauges
- Verniers and associated metrology equipment
- Supporting production teams with inspection-related queries
- Maintaining inspection standards within aerospace and defence manufacturing environments
- Working independently to identify issues and ensure component conformity
About You
We are looking for someone who can work proactively and independently rather than relying solely on standard checklists or step-by-step inspection procedures. You will ideally have experience within precision engineering, aerospace, defence, or other highly regulated manufacturing sectors.
Essential:
- Previous experience within a Quality Inspector / Quality Technician role
- Strong understanding of precision machining inspection processes
- Ability to confidently read and interpret third-angle engineering drawings
- Experience using conventional metrology equipment
- Ability to work independently and use initiative on the shop floor
- Strong attention to detail and quality standards
Desirable:
- CMM operating and/or programming experience
- Exposure to Cameo, Zeiss or PC-DMIS software
- Aerospace or defence manufacturing experience
- Experience inspecting complex machined components
