We’re working with a leading engineering consultancy to find a Software Engineering Leader to guide the delivery of complex, high-integrity software systems for critical national infrastructure. The role is based around a long-term programme of work and offers a rare blend of hands-on technical oversight, stakeholder influence, and people leadership.
This is a senior role for someone who thrives in regulated, high-stakes environments — whether that’s defence, aerospace, automotive, or energy — and who knows what it takes to lead teams delivering embedded, safety-critical, real-time software systems.
You'll be responsible for shaping the technical strategy, mentoring a multidisciplinary team, and ensuring delivery of software solutions that are robust, compliant, and aligned with the wider goals of the organisation and customer.
What we’re looking for
- Substantial experience leading teams developing high-integrity or safety-critical software
- Strong background in embedded systems, control software, or real-time applications
- Ability to guide architecture and integration decisions across multi-disciplinary teams
- Experience aligning engineering activity with programme milestones, budget, and compliance
- Excellent communication skills — able to influence internally, and represent the team externally
- Comfortable leading technical governance, risk discussions, and approval processes
- Background in nuclear, aerospace, defence, or another regulated engineering environment
- Degree qualified in software, computer science, or a relevant discipline
- Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent) is desirable
Location & Travel
You’ll need to be available to work on-site in the West Midlands 2–3 times per week. The rest of your time can be spent working remotely or from other offices as needed.
Salary & Benefits
Circa £70,000 to £90,000 basic salary, with a comprehensive benefits package including bonus, pension, and flexible working arrangements.
