- Principal System Test Engineer
- Southampton | Hybrid Working Competitive Salary + Bonus + Benefits
Not all test roles are created equal.
Some involve executing test plans that somebody else has written.
This isn't one of them.
We're working with a company developing advanced 5G and satellite communications technology.
They're looking for a Principal System Test Engineer who can bridge the gap between specification, system architecture and real-world performance.
You’ll be the person asking
"How should this system behave?" not simply
"Did it pass the test?"
Working closely with development, architecture and product teams, you’ll define test strategies, develop automated test capability and help ensure complex wireless systems perform as expected in real-world environments.
The Opportunity
- Define and implement system-level test strategies for advanced wireless communications products.
- Develop Python-based automated test frameworks and test capability.
- Work with RF equipment and wireless systems to investigate performance, diagnose issues and validate behaviour.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects and customers to translate requirements into meaningful test coverage.
What We're Looking For
- Strong understanding of wireless communications systems, ideally within 4G, 5G, NTN or related technologies.
- Experience interpreting specifications and translating requirements into practical test methodologies.
- Python development skills and experience building automated test solutions.
- Confidence working with RF test equipment and analysing system performance.
Experience with 3GPP technologies, RF system testing, satellite communications, CI/CD, hardware-in-the-loop environments or wireless infrastructure products would be advantageous.
This role would suit someone who enjoys combining systems thinking, wireless communications and software engineering to solve difficult technical problems.
- You’ll Likely Enjoy This Role If
- You like understanding how systems work, not just whether they work.
- You enjoy solving technical problems using data, measurements and analysis.
- You're comfortable working across software, hardware and RF domains.
- You prefer being involved in defining the test approach rather than simply executing it.
