A technology-led organisation is looking to appoint a Technical Manager to lead the development of IoT, wireless, RF, and embedded systems across both established and next-generation products. This role blends hands-on technical leadership with people and delivery management, providing strategic direction across wireless networks, sensors, and embedded platforms.

You will act as the technical authority for wireless and sensing technologies, while leading a specialist engineering team and collaborating closely with wider R&D, product, and operational stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a team of engineers working across IoT, RF, wireless communications, sensors, and embedded systems.
  • Define technical architecture and technical direction for scalable wireless and sensor-based solutions.
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for RF, wireless protocols, and embedded technologies.
  • Drive innovation through concept development, technical reviews, and internal design workshops.
  • Design and oversee wireless network architectures and evaluate suitable protocols and technologies.
  • Define standards for sensor hardware, embedded software, and system integration.
  • Ensure robust security, resilience, and regulatory compliance across all wireless solutions.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to QA, technical support, supply chain, product, and commercial teams.
  • Maintain a practical, hands-on engineering approach to problem solving and troubleshooting.
  • Consider real-world deployment, installation, customer use, and manufacturing constraints during design.
  • Partner with senior technical leadership and programme management to ensure aligned delivery.
  • Manage team performance, resource planning, recruitment, training, and professional development.
Required Experience & Skills
  • HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or Embedded Systems.
  • 3+ years’ experience within IoT, wireless, RF, or embedded engineering environments.
  • Strong understanding of wireless protocols, RF principles, and embedded software/hardware interaction.
  • Previous programming experience with evidence of practical implementation (current coding not essential).
  • Proven ability to manage multiple technical workstreams or projects simultaneously.
  • Confident communicator able to translate complex RF and embedded concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Hands-on, solutions-driven mindset with strong troubleshooting skills.
  • High level of self-motivation and professional work ethic.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Degree or Master’s qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years’ experience in IoT, RF, embedded systems, or wireless product development.
  • Experience with sub‑GHz or low-power wireless technologies (e.g. proprietary RF, LPWAN, mesh networks).
  • Practical knowledge of wireless regulatory compliance and certification.
  • Exposure to sensor design, including hardware, firmware, and system-level integration.
  • Experience working within a structured SME or R&D-led environment.
  • Ability to travel internationally if required.
