Over the past 25 years Taiko has launched more first to market Sushi and Food to Go products than any other sushi manufacturer in the UK.
The Despatch Supervisor will be responsible for leading and overseeing the daily operations of the despatch department in a fast-paced food manufacturing and distribution environment. This role ensures all finished food products are picked, packed, and dispatched accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with food safety and quality standards.
The position requires strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain high performance standards while meeting strict customer delivery deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise, train, and motivate despatch operatives, allocating daily tasks to ensure productivity and accuracy.
- Oversee all aspects of the picking, checking, packing, and loading process to guarantee timely and accurate despatch.
- Ensure adherence to HACCP, food safety, hygiene, and BRCGS standards. Carry out product checks including expiry dates, labelling, and batch codes.
- Monitor and manage stock movements, ensuring 100% accuracy. Implement FIFO stock rotation to prevent waste and maintain product quality.
- Work closely with production teams and transport carriers to ensure efficient vehicle loading and on-time delivery.
- Enforce safe working practices and compliance with health & safety regulations across the team.
- Accurately complete despatch paperwork, carrier documentation, and maintain records. Report on KPIs such as picking accuracy, productivity, and delivery performance.
- Identify and resolve operational issues quickly, escalating critical problems to senior management where necessary.
What Were Looking For:
- Proven experience in a supervisory or team leader role within food manufacturing, warehousing, or logistics.
- Strong understanding of HACCP and food safety requirements.
- Familiarity with BRCGS or equivalent quality standards (desirable).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and consistently meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and accuracy.
- IT literate, with experience in Warehouse Management Systems (WMS); knowledge of NAV is advantageous.
