We are looking for dedicated Swim Support Leaders to be with the children during their session in the pool, helping them to get ready before and after the sessions.

Working during the school holidays, Monday to Friday, around 15 hours per week, 12pm-3pm each day (with some flexibility!) you will:

  • Walk with the children across to the Leisure Centre
  • Assist them get ready for swimming if help is required
  • Be responsible for your group of children, who will be grouped according to ability
  • Create fun, engaging and safe games and activities to play in the pool to ensure the children have maximum amount of fun
  • Be ready to be splashed and get involved with the games in the pool
  • Provide encouragement to reluctant swimmer to get involved where needed
  • Help the children get ready to return to YMCA at the end of the session

You will be in the pool while the children swim ensuring supervision of children is maintained throughout the session.

Safeguarding is of upmost importance to us and you will provide an additional level of oversight and support when needed.

You will need to wear appropriate clothing for the activity – shorts and t-shirt (a YMCA staff t-shirt will be provided to be worn over swimwear so you can be easily identifiable).

There is no requirement to teach the children how to swim as this is a fun activity rather than a lesson.

However if you did hold a Swim England Level 2 certificate, this would be a bonus.

If you have previous experience of leading similar activities, this would be fantastic.

If you will need to be a confident, competent swimmer.

You will need to be able to commit to this role to ensure the safety and well-being of the children at Camp is maintained at all times.

This role would suit you if you are looking for additional work during the school holidays between your studies or other employment that leaves you free during non-term time.

Based from our YMCA Newark & Sherwood Community & Activity Village, you will be based here every day, accompanying the children and Swim Support leaders on the short walk across to the Leisure Centre where we swim.
