The historic Malt Cross is an iconic bar and kitchen in the heart of Nottingham City Centre. The venue has been welcoming and serving customers to its famous bar for almost 150 years.
As we approach the busy festive period, we are looking for a new Casual Chef to join our team.
We are passionate about high-quality food, made from locally sourced ingredients served in a welcoming, friendly, relaxed environment filled with great music and lively events.
What’s more, as an independent venue, Malt Cross’s activity directly supports YMCA community projects in the city and across Nottinghamshire.

Salary:£13.50 per hour
Hours: Casual hours across the week, including weekends covering days and evenings
The Role
On a day-to-day basis, you can expect your role to include:
- Preparation of meals from our lunch and dinner menus, offering freshly prepared, delicious meals.
- Providing excellent buffet/banquet style food for bespoke events, such as Christmas events.
- Promoting a welcoming, inclusive and community-focused environmentand working alongside the Malt Cross management team to deliver an exceptional customer experience, which includes delivery of staff training
- Responsibility for food safety, hygiene and compliance
About You
We are looking for someone passionate about food and ingredients who has had experience as a Chef in a smaller kitchen environment.
With experience in either café style kitchen or larger restaurant kitchen, you will be comfortable working as part of a small team where team spirit is everything.
This is a busy and varied role and you must be able to flexible to meet the needs of the kitchen on any given day.
From your experience, you will have a strong awareness of current food industry product trendsas well as a good working knowledge of Health and Safety and Food and Drink preparation practices; being Advance Hygiene Qualified or CIEH Level 2 Food Hygiene Qualified and/or holding NVQ Level 2 Food Preparation or equivalent qualificationis desirable.
As to be expected with a role of this nature, evenings and weekends shifts will form the majority of your shifts. We will share with you shift availability to be able to select whichever shifts fit with your availability.
