Day Camp Teen Specialist – Camp Wakanda (Reading) Join to apply for the Day Camp Teen Specialist – Camp Wakanda (Reading) role at YMCA of Greater Boston Job Description Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Teen Counselor provides program leadership, teen development and training, and direct supervision to assigned groups of teen campers, counselors-in-training (CITs), or leaders-in-trainings (LITs). The role involves assisting with the implementation of a quality camp program that promotes growth in skills such as leadership, self-awareness, and group relations, while prioritizing safety and overall welfare of campers. The teen counselor supports CIT counselors and staff, acts as a peer leader, demonstrates appropriate techniques, and influences positive development among campers. Key Responsibilities Prioritize camper safety, emphasizing personal safety and emotional wellbeing. Create an engaging, active environment that promotes group participation. Model YMCA values and develop appropriate relationships with campers, maintaining proper boundaries. Use positive discipline and reinforcement techniques, providing specific praise for positive behavior. Plan and execute recreational and educational activities emphasizing group participation and choice. Assist aquatics staff during swim activities, ensuring safety and active participation. Maintain daily attendance records, practice active listening, and communicate effectively with supervisors. Report incidents promptly and document as necessary. Participate in camp activities, special events, and staff meetings; adhere to policies and procedures. Maintain the cleanliness and safety of all program areas and supplies. Perform additional duties as needed, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to develop skills. Qualifications Must be at least 18 years old (preferably 21+). High school diploma or equivalent required; some college and teen experience preferred. Experience working with teens or young adults, understanding their needs and strengths. Commitment to working with diverse backgrounds and effective communication skills. Current First Aid, Oxygen administration, and CPR certifications, along with any other required certifications. Additional Details Position is entry level, contractual, with availability up to 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, between 7 am and 6 pm. #J-18808-Ljbffr
