We are seeking a dedicated and thorough individual to join our team as a Housing Safety and Compliance Officer based in North Tyneside (Field Based). What Will You Be Doing?

As a Housing Safety and Compliance Officer, you will play a vital role in ensuring that all residential properties managed by YMCA North Tyneside and our partners strictly comply with legal safety standards. Your main responsibilities include:

  • Inspections & Audits: Conducting comprehensive on-site inspections to assess compliance and identify hazards related to gas, electricity, fire safety, asbestos, and water systems.
  • Compliance Management: Ensuring property documents comply with housing regulations (such as HHSRS) and tracking certifications in our database systems.
  • Repairs & Coordination: Working closely with property management teams to issue repair orders, follow up on remediation work, and conduct re-inspections.
  • Reporting: Generating detailed risk and compliance reports, complete with photographs, for the Health & Safety and Compliance Manager.

What Skills and Experience Do You Need?

To be successful in this flexible and essential role, it is essential that you have:

  • A full driving licence and access to your own transport covered for business insurance use.
  • Solid understanding of building codes, safety regulations, and housing legislation regarding gas, electricity, and fire safety.
  • Proficiency in conducting thorough residential inspections and keeping highly organised electronic records.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills to collaborate effectively with management, tenants, and partner organisations.
  • Competency using a variety of software packages (including Word, Email, Advanced Excel, and databases).

It is desirable (but not essential) if you have knowledge of the work of supported accommodation providers and social housing quality frameworks.
