What Will You Be Doing?

As an Assistant Accountant, you will be a vital part of our team, supporting day‑to‑day transactional activities for both YMCA North Tyneside and our subsidiary, Patterdale Hall Estates Ltd (PHEL). Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Processing and posting invoices, receipts, payments, and bank transactions accurately.
  • Performing bank and supplier statement reconciliations, and recording housing benefit/rent receipts.
  • Supporting the finance team with exciting system implementations (like new PO and expense systems) and process improvement projects.
  • Assisting the Finance Manager and Director of Finance with general administration, company credit cards, and ad‑hoc reporting.

What Skills and Experience Do You Need?

To be successful in this essential role, it is important that you have:

  • A relevant finance/accountancy qualification (e.g., AAT) or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in Google Sheets or Excel, with comfort building and maintaining spreadsheets.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and prioritise deadlines.
  • A proactive mindset with a strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with Xero software, system implementations, or working within a Not‑for‑Profit/Charity environment is highly desirable.
