We are looking for a Specialist Housing Advisor to join the Youth Advice Centre (YAC) in Brighton. The role involves supporting young people aged 13–25 with housing options, referrals, and advocacy, as well as prevention work through workshops.

Responsibilities

  • Support young people to understand their housing options and make referrals on their behalf.
  • Advocate on behalf of young people when necessary.
  • Deliver drop-in clinic and appointment work.
  • Provide one-to-one support to young people.
  • Deliver workshops in schools, colleges and other youth settings.
  • Identify safeguarding concerns and risks, and maintain strong professional boundaries.
  • Work with professional networks to provide additional support.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a housing or advice setting is desirable but not essential; a full induction and training package will be provided.
  • Ability to engage with young people, co-produce support plans, and listen to their voice.
  • Ability to professionally challenge decisions and advocate on behalf of clients.
  • Experience working with professional networks and identifying safeguarding concerns and risk.
  • Commitment to maintaining professional boundaries at all times.
  • Unclear prior experience is acceptable for suitable candidates who can demonstrate transferability of skills.

All staff will undergo a thorough background screening process, including an Enhanced DBS check and reference checks.
