About the role
Do you believe every young person deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of the barriers they face?
At YMCA Derbyshire’s Key College, we support young people aged 16–24, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), to develop the skills, confidence and independence they need to achieve their ambitions.
We’re looking for a passionate and motivated Senior Learner Support Assistant to join our team. This is more than a classroom support role. You’ll help shape inclusive learning experiences, mentor colleagues and ensure learners receive the individual support they need to thrive.
Working closely with tutors, managers and our SEND and Inclusion Manager, you’ll play an important role in improving learner outcomes and promoting a positive, inclusive college environment.
- Provide targeted support to learners with additional needs, helping them overcome barriers and achieve their potential.
- Support tutors to deliver inclusive and engaging learning through appropriate strategies and reasonable adjustments.
- Monitor learner progress, including EHCP outcomes, and contribute to support plans, reviews and quality assurance.
- Mentor and support Learning Support Assistants, coordinating professional development and sharing effective practice.
- Help develop and coordinate tutorial programmes, enrichment activities and wellbeing initiatives.
- Work closely with learners, families, colleagues and external partners to promote inclusion, independence and positive progression.
Driving licence and access to a car essential.

Could this be you?
- Experienced in supporting young people within an educational or support setting.
- Confident supporting and guiding colleagues to deliver effective learner support.
- Organised, proactive and able to maintain accurate learner records and support documentation.
- Knowledgeable about inclusive practice, safeguarding and positive behaviour support.
- An effective communicator who can build positive relationships with learners, staff and external partners.
- Committed to continuous improvement and delivering high-quality learner support.
- Experience supporting learners with EHCPs, mentoring colleagues or contributing to inclusive education would be particularly desirable.
This is an opportunity for an experienced lead Learning Support Assistant who is ready to take the next step in their career. Whether you’re already supporting colleagues or looking to develop your skills in mentoring, inclusion and quality improvement, this role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of young people.
If you’re passionate about inclusive education and helping every learner achieve their potential, we’d love to hear from you.
