Leading independent energy specialist Power Zero is recruiting for an experienced project engineer to join its expanding team, based at its Salford headquarters. With over a quarter of a century’s experience in specialist independent generation systems, Power Zero have developed an enviable array of systems and services that benefit its clients’ energy requirements and help reduce the emission of harmful greenhouse gases.
Power Zero have a strong track record in the development of power generation projects both in the UK and overseas and since 2019 is diversifying its operations into flexible reserve generation, energy storage, behind the meter generation and other technologies. This expansion aims to establish Power Zero as a leader in these emergent markets in the coming years.
A successful candidate will need to be flexible, adaptive, and innovative in their approach and be willing to manage multiple small and medium scale projects at any one time.

Role and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Head of Solar, as Solar Project Engineer you will form part of an expanding team responsible for the design development and delivery of new solar projects. Primary responsibilities will include:
- Development of solar proposals using modelling software
- Develop drawings and layouts to a professional standard for use in planning, proposals and grid applications
- Attend technical site visits to assess the appropriateness of initial designs and revise models if necessary
- Suggest an initial electrical design based on client infrastructure and review with our preferred electrical designer/installer
- Create cost estimates for delivery of proposals of solar projects
- Submitting, reviewing, and challenging connection offers for HV/LV grid connections from the DNO for solar proposals
- Preparation of technical specifications for invitations to tender and contracts for solar proposals.
- Coordination and review of tender submissions where an EPC is utilized
- Project manage the construction of the solar projects including design modifications, technical support and contractor design reviews
- Working with our procurement team to manage and grow our technical relationship with suppliers
Power Zero has a growing portfolio of project sites, from smaller 500kW rooftop projects to larger multi -MW’s ground mount systems, this role represents an excellent opportunity to participate in diverse projects during a period of substantial growth for Power Zero
The ideal candidate will have experience in the design & development of solar projects in the UK, in particular experience of solar design and an appreciation for electrical design. Experience in renewable heat would be beneficial.
A strong track record of Teamwork is important since in response to rapid growth, Power Zeros project team has doubled in size during 2021 and implementing new ideas and collaborative ways of working to keep up with these new challenges will be essential.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in the cradle-to-grave management of the solar design of energy projects in the UK.
- The ability to prioritize your own workload, especially when juggling multiple projects at various stages of development and to understand and manage your own time to control budgets.
- Good communication, Power Zero has a diverse team with varied capabilities, building relationships to maximize the efficiency of the team will be key to delivering the role.
- Willingness to come up with ideas and identify opportunities, especially when working on Power Zero’s projects
- Commercial experience would be of value, especially experience handling contractor claims and change orders.
- Relevant solar design experience and competency in various software packages (PVsol, PvDesign, SolarEdge Designer)
