About the role Portpatrick Dunskey golf club is seeking an experienced and passionate Head greenkeeper to lead the maintenance and development of our golf course and surrounding outdoor areas. This is a key leadership position requiring strong turf management expertise, excellent team management skills, and a commitment to delivering the highest standards of course presentation. Opportunity to influence long-term course planning, innovation and improvement projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and carry out routine golf course maintenance to exceptional standards.
- Operate and maintain a wide range of turf care equipment and machinery safely and efficiently.
- Prepare the course for competitions and events, ensuring optimal playing conditions.
- Plan and execute renovation projects and improvement works as required.
- Implement and monitor all Health & Safety procedures in line with club and industry standards.
- Develop and manage fertiliser and spraying programs to maintain course quality.
- Work alongside, supervise and motivate a small team of greenkeepers, ensuring effective workload distribution and performance.
- Organisation and coordination with external service providers.
Essential skills & Qualifications
- Proven experience in greenkeeping or turf maintenance, ideally in a supervisory or management role (Deputy Head or similar).
- NVQ/SVQ Level 3 or equivalent in sports turf management.
- Strong mechanical knowledge and experience with hand tools and power tools.
- Knowledge of irrigation systems and their maintenance requirements.
- Excellent time management, reliability and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings and weekends when required.
- Ability to work within a budget set out by management committee.
