4-Month Theatre Development Project with YES/NO Productions

Contract: Freelance / Fixed-Term Contract (4 Months)

Fee: £4,100 based on £200 p/day, we anticipate the role comprising 20.5 full working days. A suggested timeline is below, which will be confirmed in consultation with the successful candidate:

  • Oct - 2 days (briefing and planning)
  • Nov - 4 days; 1 day per week (AV checks and casting/contracting)
  • Dec - 3 days; 1 day per week excluding Christmas (contracting cont., hires and advancing, invites to WIPS)
  • Jan - 2.5 days per week (ie part time Mon-Fri) x 3 weeks management W/C 4th, 11th 18th Jan (on-site management) & 25th Jan work-in-progress prep, 26/27th Jan 2 days for WIPs, 1 day wrap up and evaluation tbc

Total days = 20.5 days

Location: Hybrid – Brighton / Remote as required

Reports To: Creative Producer / Artistic Lead

About the Project

YES/NO Productions, IMAX Film makers and creators of groundbreaking theatre, are seeking an experienced and collaborative Research & Development Producer to support the delivery of a new Arts Council-funded theatre project over a four-month development period. The project aims to produce a brand-new theatrical piece combining projection, immersive audio and traditional theatre practices. The project will focus on the early-stage exploration, development, and testing of new theatrical ideas, performance language, audience engagement, and creative methodologies. The Producer will work closely with artists, collaborators, venues, and stakeholders to ensure the smooth planning and delivery of the R&D process.

This role is ideal for someone with strong organisational skills, creative sensitivity, and experience supporting devised, experimental, or interdisciplinary theatre-making processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the day-to-day delivery of the R&D process
  • Create and manage schedules, timelines, and project documentation
  • Support rehearsal planning, workshop logistics, and artist coordination
  • Liaise with venue (THE OLD MARKET), technical teams, freelancers, and external partners
  • Monitor project milestones and ensure delivery against funding objectives
  • Assist the creative team in facilitating workshops, sharings, and exploratory sessions
  • Support research processes including sourcing materials, references, contributors, and collaborators
  • Document creative development and evaluation outcomes
  • Help shape audience feedback and reflective evaluation processes
  • Track project expenditure against budget allocations
  • Process contracts, invoices, and payments where required
  • Maintain clear records for reporting to funders and stakeholders
  • Support preparation of interim and final Arts Council reporting
  • Coordinate communication between creative teams and stakeholders
  • Assist with marketing, audience engagement, and social media activity where required
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with artists, venues, and community partners

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Experience producing theatre, live performance, or arts projects
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Experience working within funded arts environments
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Experience supporting collaborative and artist-led processes
  • Confident with budgeting, scheduling, and project administration
  • Passion for innovative and contemporary performance practice

Desirable:

  • Experience with Arts Council England-funded projects
  • Experience in devised, immersive, physical, or interdisciplinary theatre
  • Knowledge of evaluation and audience development processes
  • Existing relationships within UK theatre and arts networks
