Yellowstone Biosciences is a biotechnology spinout company located in Oxford, whose goal is to pioneer new cancer treatments using advanced T-cell therapies based on groundbreaking research from the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine at the University of Oxford.

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Scientist / Scientist to work within our Protein Engineering team to provide essential hands‑on support to accelerate our pipeline of novel therapeutics. This role is focussed on affinity enhancement of TCRs towards novel ligands and the downstream characterisation of output clones. In addition, there will be the opportunity to gain broad experience across molecular biology, display technologies, expression, purification, and early‑stage discovery in a fast‑paced & collaborative biotech environment. The role is available as a fixed term contract (6 month) in the first instance.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering and affinity maturation of TCRs against novel targets using phage display
  • Molecular biology - Library construction & reformatting output into expression constructs
  • Recombinant protein expression of affinity enhanced proteins in mammalian systems (Expi293 and ExpiCHO)
  • Transient transfection
  • Protein characterisation SDS‑PAGE, Western blotting and DSF

Qualifications

  • MSc, PhD or equivalent in Molecular Biology or Biochemistry or a related subject
  • Seniority grade will be dependent on experience

Required Skills

  • Experienced in modern molecular biology techniques and relevant software packages (SnapGene, Benchling etc.)
  • DNA library construction of highly diverse sequences
  • Display technologies (eg. phage display) for TCR/Antibody affinity maturation
  • Protein purification and protein analysis
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn new techniques and adopt new practices to support the company goals
  • Accuracy, efficiency and attention to detail is essential
  • Excellent communication and record-keeping skills
  • Work in accordance with company Health and Safety policies, with particular emphasis on laboratory safety standards

Preferred Skills

  • Experience of mammalian cell culture and excellent aseptic technique
  • Understanding of protein structure/function relationships
  • Experience working in a fast‑paced environment
