About the Role

We are seeking two Scientists to work within our Protein Production team to provide essential hands-on support to accelerate our pipeline of novel therapeutics. A main aspect of one of these roles is to take responsibility for maintaining and optimising the mammalian expression pipeline; this is a key deliverable. Both roles require protein purification, characterisation and affinity measurements. There will be opportunity to gain broad experience across therapeutic protein design and characterisation in a fast-paced and collaborative biotech environment. The role is available as a fixed term contract (6 month) in the first instance.

Responsibilities

  • Recombinant protein expression in mammalian systems
  • Cell maintenance and expansion in preparation for transfection for the Protein Science team
  • Transient transfection
  • Stable cell line generation
  • Protein purification (Bench and FPLC methods)
  • Protein characterisation (SDS-PAGE, Western blotting and DSF)
  • Protein binding assays (SPR, BLI, ELISA)
  • Molecular biology Expression construct design and cloning

Qualifications

  • PhD (or equivalent experience) in Biochemistry or a related subject

Required Skills

  • Experience of mammalian cell culture and excellent aseptic technique (for mammalian expression role)
  • Excellent knowledge of protein production techniques and workflows
  • Molecular cloning
  • Experience of AKTA FPLC use including method writing and optimisation
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn new techniques and adopt new practices to support the company goals
  • Accuracy, efficiency and attention to detail is essential
  • Excellent communication and record-keeping skills
  • Work in accordance with company Health and Safety policies, with particular emphasis on laboratory safety standards
  • Experience using relevant software packages e.g. SnapGene, Benchling
