Yellowstone Biosciences is a biotechnology spinout company located in Oxford, whose goal is to pioneer new cancer treatments using advanced T-cell therapies based on ground-breaking research from the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine at the University of Oxford.
The successful candidate will play a vital role within the Research function, working closely with both the Cell Biology and Protein Sciences (Mammalian Expression) teams. Responsibilities will include maintaining cell lines and primary cells, performing transfections, coordinating cell supply for assays, and overseeing the upkeep of biosafety cabinets and incubators. The ideal individual will demonstrate excellent aseptic technique, a proactive and detail-focused approach, and a strong ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
Key Responsibilities- Cell Line Maintenance: Culture, bank, revive/freeze and maintain mammalian cells and primary cells in aseptic conditions to pre-defined protocols as well as testing cell lines for mycoplasma. Regularly audit cell line stocks in liquid nitrogen storage.
- Transfections: Perform transfections using established protocols and troubleshoot any issues that arise.
- Cell use coordination: Coordinate the preparation and distribution of cells for various assays, collaborating with other team members to ensure timely and accurate results.
- Cell based assays: Assisting and occasionally leading on cell-based assays including flow cytometry, cell killing assays, and ELISA.
- Equipment and reagent maintenance: Maintain and monitor hoods, incubators, and other cell culture equipment to ensure proper functioning and cleanliness. Ordering and maintaining reagents (with appropriate aliquoting) and stocks for tissue culture and cell-based assays.
- Documentation: Keep detailed records of all experiments, procedures, and results in accordance with company standards.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other researchers and staff, contributing to a collaborative and supportive work environment.
- Proactive Problem Solving: Identify and address potential issues in cell culture processes and equipment maintenance proactively.
- Participating in laboratory team meetings.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field (desirable).
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in cell culture, including maintaining cell lines and primary cells, performing transfections, and coordinating assays. Prior Lentiviral transductions and immunology-based assay experience desirable not essential.
- Skills: Strong technical skills in cell culture techniques, transfection methods, and equipment maintenance. Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
