Your Mission: We are looking for an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our Finance & Administration team, working across both our Finance and People & Culture functions. As a key member of the team, you will own the end‑to‑end payroll and pension administration for the business, working closely with employees, managers, HMRC, and our pension providers to ensure everyone is paid accurately and on time, records are maintained to a high standard, and statutory deadlines are consistently met. This is a hands‑on role that offers the opportunity to make a real impact. You will play an important part in strengthening our payroll processes, supporting the smooth running of the business, and contributing to continuous improvements across our finance and P&C functions. Working collaboratively across departments, you'll help provide the accurate payroll information needed by both Finance and People & Culture while ensuring our payroll operations remain efficient, compliant, and scalable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process weekly and monthly payroll accurately and on schedule
  • Maintain employee payroll and pension records
  • Prepare and submit payroll tax filings and statutory returns
  • Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, pension regulations, and company policies
  • Maintain payroll compliance with HMRC and pension requirements
  • Support Finance with payroll reconciliations and related accounting activities
  • Respond to payroll queries from employees and managers
  • Assist with payroll audits and year‑end reporting activities
  • Identify process bottlenecks and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy

Requirements:

What You'll Bring:

  • Proven payroll administration experience, including payroll-related taxation
  • Pension administration experience
  • Basic Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) knowledge

Core Skills:

  • Knowledge of HMRC payroll legislation and statutory requirements
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Excellent communication and people skills

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Experience using payroll or accounting software, such as Sage, Xero, or a similar ERP system
  • Experience working in a fast‑paced, scaling or start‑up business
