What You Will Do

As a Senior Commissioning Engineer, you will lead the commissioning and delivery of Building Management System (BMS) projects, ensuring solutions are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Working closely with project teams, customers, subcontractors, and service operations, you will provide technical leadership, manage commissioning activities, and support successful project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead commissioning activities from design review through to project handover.
  • Review specifications, drawings, and control philosophies, identifying potential issues and recommending solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to commissioning engineers and junior team members.
  • Support solution design, scope development, technical proposals, and project costing.
  • Develop, modify, and commission BMS software in line with project requirements and company standards.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities with project managers, contractors, consultants, and end users.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements, company policies, and relevant regulations.
  • Lead FAT, SAT, integrated systems testing, and client witness testing.
  • Validate system performance, troubleshoot technical issues, and drive resolution.
  • Produce and review commissioning documentation, test records, technical reports, and handover packs.
  • Configure and commission controllers, field devices, graphics, and energy management solutions.
  • Identify project risks and opportunities and support successful delivery throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Act as a technical representative during customer meetings, project execution, and handover.
  • What We Look For
  • NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification in Electrical, Electronic, Controls Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years BMS commissioning experience with a proven track record of delivering complex projects.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and controls, including AHUs, FCUs, chillers, boilers, plant rooms, terminal units, and associated control strategies.
  • Advanced experience developing, modifying, and commissioning BMS software and control systems.
  • Strong understanding of BMS architectures and communication protocols, including BACnet and Modbus.
  • Experience leading commissioning activities on large-scale construction or refurbishment projects.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex system integration and performance issues.
  • ECS/CSCS certification and a strong understanding of construction-site health and safety requirements.
  • Experience with motor control systems, VSDs, energy management, and optimisation strategies.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective customer relationships.
  • Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to other engineers is advantageous.
