Role Overview

As a Specialist Chiller Technician, you will support in‑service and preventive maintenance for chilled water plants, refrigeration systems, and HVAC solutions on large scale chillers up to 10,000kW aboard naval and commercial marine vessels, both onshore and offshore.

Responsibilities

  • Commission, test and troubleshoot refrigeration and HVAC equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance, breakdown repairs, fault diagnosis and retrofits.
  • Support factory acceptance trials at the Basildon facility when required.
  • Maintain accurate work records and report emerging issues.
  • Ensure a safe working environment and high levels of customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Apprenticeship‑trained in refrigeration or HVAC (City & Guilds, NVQ, BTEC).
  • F‑Gas (C&G 2079) certification.
  • Mechanical and electrical fault‑finding skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing workload and multiple tasks.
  • Excellent communication and customer‑focused approach.
  • Flexibility to travel to ports across the UK and internationally; to work weekends when required.
  • UK BPSS and SC UK MOD Security Clearance required (screening provided by JCI).

Preferred: familiarity with Navy/Marine environment; PLC/microprocessor system knowledge; HVAC experience and air balancing; electrical qualifications.
