About us
YDS Group is the parent company behind two growing dental and aesthetics brands: Yorkshire Dental Suite and Smile White. As we expand, the volume and importance of the data we hold - patient records, clinical activity, financials, marketing performance and operational metrics - is growing fast. We're looking for a Data Engineer to take ownership of that data: making sure it's accurate, secure, well-structured and giving the business the visibility it needs to scale confidently.
This is a genuine ownership role. You won't be one engineer in a large team - you'll be the person responsible for getting our data foundations right across both brands.
The role
Reporting to the Group Operations Manager, you'll oversee data integrity across the group and build the storage and reporting infrastructure that supports our growth. You'll work closely with operations, clinical and finance teams to understand what they need from our data, and you'll be the safeguard that ensures the numbers people rely on are correct, consistent and available.
Key responsibilities
- Own data integrity across both brands - defining standards, validation rules and processes so data is accurate, consistent and trustworthy.
- Design, build and maintain reliable data pipelines that bring together information from our practice management systems, finance tools, marketing platforms and other sources.
- Establish and manage scalable, secure data storage that supports the group as we open new sites and add new systems.
- Build reporting and dashboards that give leadership clear visibility of performance across both brands.
- Ensure data is handled in line with GDPR and healthcare data protection requirements, working with relevant teams on governance and security.
- Identify and resolve data quality issues at the source, putting in place monitoring so problems are caught early.
- Document data structures, definitions and processes so the business has a single, reliable source of truth.
- Partner with operations, clinical and finance teams to translate business questions into data solutions.
What we're looking for
Essential
- Demonstrable experience as a Data Engineer (or in a closely related data role) building pipelines and managing data infrastructure.
- Strong SQL and solid experience with relational databases.
- Experience with at least one programming language used in data work (e.g. Python).
- Experience designing data storage and warehousing solutions, ideally in a cloud environment (AWS, Azure or GCP).
- A genuine eye for data quality and integrity - someone who cares about getting the details right.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with non-technical colleagues across the business.
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of a function.
Desirable
- Experience handling sensitive or regulated data, and familiarity with GDPR.
- Experience in healthcare, dental, or a multi-site / multi-brand environment.
- Experience with BI and dashboarding tools (e.g. Power BI, Looker, Tableau).
- Familiarity with dental or healthcare practice management systems.
What we offer
- A salary of £45,000 – £55,000 depending on experience.
- The chance to build a data function from the ground up and shape how the group uses data as it scales.
- A genuinely visible role with direct impact on how the business grows.
