Yourconstruction are delighted to be recruiting for an Internal Estimator for a large construction group. This role will be located at one of their London branches. My client specifies and sells high-end architectural products, which determine the look of any given building's exterior once installed. They come in a range of natural looks, finishes, and sizes from thicker blocks to thin lightweight panels. They are distributors and fabricators of these high-end natural products.
Job Purpose: We have an exciting opportunity for an estimator who will work alongside our dynamic sales department. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated and has a 'can do' attitude to join our enthusiastic and friendly team. As a vital member of our team, you will be responsible for assisting in the estimation process, ensuring accurate and competitive pricing for our clients. This role offers an excellent opportunity for career growth in the construction industry and exposure to various projects.
You will be tasked with:
- Assisting senior estimators in preparing accurate cost estimates for projects by analysing project specifications, drawings, and other relevant documentation.
- Conducting material take-offs from architectural and engineering drawings to determine the quantity of materials required for each project.
- Communicating with suppliers to obtain pricing for materials and equipment needed for projects, ensuring the most competitive rates.
- Collaborating with project managers, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information and clarify project requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain updated cost lists for various façade materials in our product inventory.
- Communicate with clients who submit quote requests, ensuring a clear understanding of their requirements and obtaining any additional necessary information such as drawings or BOQ.
- Calculate the required area (m2) of the façade cladding product from provided drawings, utilising Excel or AutoCAD for a 'drawing take-off.'
- Optimise the panel schedule to provide the most cost-effective value engineering (VE) solution for our clients.
- Input the calculated area and relevant product details, including the appropriate margin, into our costing template.
- Present the finalised quotation to the senior estimator or manager for review before sending it to the client.
- Follow up with clients for any clarifications or additional information.
- Collaborate with the design/sales department as needed.
- Upon receiving an order, verify and pass it on to the project management team.
- Provide general administrative support to the estimating department.
Training on products will be provided. Please note that this will change as the role and function to the business develops.
Person Specification:
- Background in the construction industry.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting construction and architects' drawings and specifications.
- Strong mathematical skills for precise calculations and take-offs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with clients and work colleagues.
- Capacity to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Build relationships with suppliers to facilitate cost-related needs.
- Identify opportunities for value engineering to maintain competitive quotes.
- Collaborate closely with the design team to address flaws, suggest improvements, and offer potential solutions.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and AutoCAD.
- Strong organisational skills and effective time management to meet established deadlines.
- Team player with a drive for success.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to extract crucial information.
- Positive, proactive, and flexible approach with a 'can-do' attitude.
- Self-motivated and enthusiastic with excellent analytical abilities.
- Minimum of 12 months' experience in product distribution or a construction-related background.
- Previous work experience involving pricing, estimating, or financial accounts, demonstrating an analytical and thorough approach will be considered.
Desirable: Any experience within the facades industry, including knowledge of how to read drawing packages and strong mathematical skills are essential.
