Key Responsibilities
- Support the aims and objectives of the school as Deputy Safeguarding Lead.
- Manage attendance, pastoral and welfare/safeguarding issues.
- Work with pupils and families to maximise support and their learning for individual pupils.
- Contribute to the development of a whole‑school approach to overcome obstacles to learning and improve pupil participation in learning and whole‑school life.
- Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL)/Child Protection, supporting pupils and parents of children on Child Protection Plans, and implement all aspects of the academy's Child Protection procedures and protocols under the direction of the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
- Lead professional in EHAP meetings and attend external meetings such as Child In Need/CP core group, case conferences and other multi‑agency meetings.
- Support transition visits/plans and gather Year6 safeguarding information.
- Coordinate school health nurse referrals and other external agency referrals.
- Daily monitor and act on CMOPS tasks at the discretion of the DSL.
- Alert parents to patterns of absence and use a solution‑focused approach via SAM to implement support plans.
- Work with the attendance officer weekly to discuss attendance progress and send attendance warning letters for students close to PA category; chair school attendance meetings in line with the attendance policy.
- Agree targets with parents/carers to improve attendance, inform them of legal requirements and the process for continued unauthorised absences.
- Personalise Individual Health Care Plans (IHCPs) for students with mental health or medical issues impacting attendance to remove barriers.
- Implement the academy's pick‑up transport service when required.
- Attend home visits for attendance or welfare support.
- Complete all attendance documentation in line with the Local Authority and Greenshaw procedures, including referral forms for PLC or other alternative providers.
- Attend and support subsequent attendance review meetings with Safeguarding & Behaviour Lead and Educational Welfare Officer.
- Collate, complete, review and update attendance snapshots for students in the persistent absence category.
- Alert and liaise with social workers and other agencies regarding absences for CIN/CP/EHAP/Family Plus students.
- Provide support to Heads of Key Stages concerning wellbeing, safety, behaviour and attendance.
- Develop positive relationships with parents and liaise regarding all aspects of pastoral care and safeguarding.
- Coach/mentor targeted students to remove barriers to learning.
- Facilitate social skills intervention workshops for targeted students.
- Work with SEN team to support vulnerable students.
- Provide on‑call support as requested by line managers / SLT.
- Actively promote positive behaviour throughout the academy in line with the school behaviour policy.
- Assist the Behaviour Lead or SLT in removing students from classrooms whose behaviour is a concern, as requested.
- Handle in‑year admissions in line with Greenshaw admissions policy.
- Exercise responsibility for the welfare and safety of pupils at all times, intervening where necessary.
