Overview
The Dispensary Hatch Assistant role at Yalding Surgery is part of a friendly, supportive team serving a rural community on the outskirts of Maidstone. The post involves greeting patients, dispensing medications and providing a courteous, professional service at all times. 7,100 patients are served by the practice.
Responsibilities
- Welcome patients attending the dispensary and provide a courteous, professional service at all times.
- Hand out prepared prescriptions and dispensed medications accurately and safely.
- Collect prescription charges where applicable and process payments in line with NHS and practice procedures.
- Issue receipts and maintain accurate records of payments received.
- Answer basic patient queries and refer more complex clinical or dispensing enquiries to an appropriate member of the dispensary team.
- Ensure exempt patients complete or sign the appropriate NHS declaration forms where required.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with GDPR and Caldicott principles.
- Respond to telephone enquiries relating to medication collections and direct calls appropriately.
- Monitor the dispensary waiting area and ensure it remains clean, tidy and welcoming.
- Report any discrepancies, incidents or concerns promptly to the Dispensary Manager or supervising dispenser.
- Support stock management by notifying the dispensary team of medications awaiting collection or returned items where appropriate.
- Assist with general administrative duties within the dispensary as required.
- Work flexibly to support colleagues during periods of increased workload or staff absence.
Qualifications
- Essential: Competency in spoken and written English and Numeracy at GCSE grade C or equivalent
Experience
- Essential: Experience of dealing with members of the public

- Previous customer service experience
