Yahoo Finance is looking for a London-based chief coverage editor to lead a new reporting team as part of our global expansion. In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Setting the morning coverage agenda to ensure that Yahoo Finance is well-positioned to serve readers, viewers and listeners with coverage of the most impactful financial and economic stories as they start their day
  • Building and leading a team of editors and reporters to go beyond the headlines to offer stories with unique, actionable context and insights while connecting the dots to broader trend narratives
  • Coordinating with text, video, front page, data viz, social and aud-dev editors in London, New York and APAC to deliver coverage at speed across formats and mediums
  • Leading an early-morning (ET) editorial meeting with US-based stakeholders
  • Bringing a self-starter’s mindset, taking the initiative to move quickly and be competitive
  • Using data to inform decision making
  • Demonstrating impeccable editorial judgment at each stage of the reporting process, from pitch to publish, along with adherence to Yahoo Finance style
  • Championing a newsroom culture that supports journalistic excellence and career development through editorial rigor, individual coaching and professional candor

This role is best-suited for an experienced financial journalist who is interested in working across formats and platforms as part of a 24/7 global coverage team. At a minimum, you should have:

  • At least 15 years of experience working as a journalist at a national or global news organization
  • At least seven years of experience leading reporting teams as an editor, demonstrating strong people management and staff development skills
  • Deep experience with and a passion for financial news
  • The journalistic skills to craft narratives that inform, captivate and engage
  • Strong news judgment and an ability to make and execute real-time decisions
  • Comprehensive understanding of editorial best practices and style guides
  • Strong communication, framing and headline writing, and copy editing skills
  • Exceptional time management skills, with the ability to balance multiple projects under tight deadlines
  • The ability to work in person in our London office every weekday, with flexibility to cover late-breaking stories after hours and on weekends and holidays as coverage needs may require
