Sector: Engineering – Energy / Infrastructure / Utilities
We’re a small but growing technical consultancy supporting the power sector with smart, practical engineering solutions. A major focus area is condition assessment of power transmission assets. We help our clients understand how their assets age and what they can do about it — with services that combine lab testing, fieldwork, analysis and engineering insight.
As the business grows, we’re looking for someone to take ownership of the Asset Condition Engineering work — delivering great work, managing technical staff, and building a platform for future growth.
About the Role
You’ll be responsible for delivering our Asset Condition Engineering projects, including:
- Field and site-based testing
- Laboratory testing and method development
- Data analysis and technical reporting
- Project management of the condition assessment work
- Maintaining quality assurance and H&S processes related to this function
- Interfacing with clients before, during, and after project delivery
- Leading the team day-to-day to keep projects on track
This is a hands‑on, delivery‑focused role that requires a solid technical background, team coordination skills and attention to detail. You'll be based in the office full‑time to support and manage a small but capable team — hybrid working may be considered after a successful settling‑in period.
If you perform well in this role, we plan to establish a new department for you to lead. At that stage, you’d take on department‑level responsibility, including:
- Managing department performance and profitability
- Leading delivery and growing the team
- Taking on P&L responsibility for the department
- Winning work and growing revenue in this area
This role is an opportunity to take real ownership of an important area of our business from day one — and grow it while growing your role.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of all Condition Engineering work
- Supervise and coordinate field and lab‑based engineers
- Carry out Condition Engineering work alongside the team in the lab and in the field
- Ensure safe working practices, quality standards, and accurate documentation
- Work with clients to define scope, manage progress, and communicate findings
- Author, review and contribute to technical reports and test results
- Maintain and improve QA documentation to meet ISO9001 standards
- Hold staff to account for productivity, reporting, and task ownership
- Report delivery status to the company director and help plan resources
Experience & Attributes
We’re looking for the person who can show that they get things done properly — not necessarily with a manager job title, but with the track record and mindset to lead delivery.
You’ll need:
- Around 5–10 years of post‑graduation engineering experience
- Background in mechanical, corrosion and/or materials engineering
- Proven experience managing the delivery of technical projects
- Proven ability to coordinate staff, track priorities, and make decisions under pressure
- Strong communication skills — written and verbal
- Confident working with clients and external partners
- Experience working to defined processes and QA standards
- UK work rights and a full, valid driving license
What We Offer
- A role with ownership from day one, and a clear path to growth
- A friendly, flexible work environment with a practical, no‑nonsense culture
- The chance to help build a department around your knowledge
- Competitive salary, performance bonus, and standard benefits package
- The opportunity to be part of a company that’s growing and evolving fast
To Apply
Please send your CV and a short note (max 1 page) telling us:
- A time when you led or delivered a complex technical project
- How you kept people and priorities on track under pressure
- Why this role interests you
We’re more interested in your real‑world experience than in cover letter polish — practical examples are what matter.
