We invite passionate individuals to join our team, dedicated to exceeding customer expectations through innovative and sustainable solutions.

Are you an engineer who enjoys turning complex customer requirements into practical, commercially viable solutions? Xylem is looking for an Applications Engineer – Wastewater Treatment to join our UK team. This is a great opportunity to work at the intersection of engineering, customer engagement and commercial delivery, helping develop solutions for some of the UK water industry's most important wastewater treatment challenges.

Working as part of a collaborative technical and commercial team, you'll develop technical and commercial proposals for wastewater treatment applications, supporting projects from initial customer requirements and site assessment through to solution design, equipment selection, costing and proposal.

What you'll be doing:

  • Develop technical and commercial proposals for moderate to complex wastewater treatment solutions.
  • Design and select solutions across Xylem's treatment portfolio.
  • Prepare techno-commercial offers and tender submissions for projects serving UK water utilities.
  • Translate customer requirements, site conditions and applicable standards, including WIMES, into practical engineered solutions.
  • Select appropriate equipment and materials and support project costing, pricing and commercial development.
  • Generate high-quality customer proposals using standard engineering and commercial tools, ensuring appropriate internal approvals are obtained.
  • Work closely with internal Sales Managers to deliver proposals against customer and project timelines.
  • Join commercial colleagues on customer site visits where technical appraisals or feasibility studies are required.
  • Prepare, coordinate and review technical submittals for customers, consultants, contractors and tenders.
  • Identify opportunities to bring together multiple Xylem technologies to provide integrated, end-to-end treatment solutions.
  • Support continuous improvement in the way we design, cost, price and deliver engineered solutions and longer-term performance contracts.
  • Provide technical expertise during customer meetings, negotiations, presentations and training activities.

We're looking for someone who combines strong engineering capability with a commercial and customer-focused mindset.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • An engineering qualification in Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental, Process Engineering, or another relevant discipline.
  • Experience within wastewater treatment, water technology, process engineering or a related industry.
  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment would be advantageous.
  • Experience developing technical proposals, quotations, tenders or engineered solutions.
  • The ability to understand customer requirements and turn them into technically sound, commercially viable solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with good attention to detail.
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of project costing and pricing.
  • Confidence working with customers, consultants, contractors and internal stakeholders.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively across engineering, sales and commercial teams.
  • Experience of UK water utility projects and WIMES requirements would be particularly valuable, although we would also be interested in engineers from adjacent process industries who are keen to develop their career within water and wastewater treatment.

Join the global Xylem team to be a part of innovative technology solutions transforming water usage, conservation, and re-use. Our products impact public utilities, industrial sectors, residential areas, and commercial buildings, with a commitment to providing smart metering, network technologies, and advanced analytics for water, electric, and gas utilities.
