Candidates must have held either a substantive NHS consultant post or a long‑term locum consultant post (defined as two years or more within the same NHS Trust) and be CCT registered. Ideally they would have at least one year’s experience working in tele-dermatology, specifically in skin cancer services, and be an active member of a local NHS multidisciplinary team within their substantive or host trust.

The successful candidate will play a key role in providing consultant‑led dermatology care, including the management of NHS‑referred patients (e.g., via NHS contracts such as e‑Referral Service and insourcing pathways), while maintaining the highest standards of clinical governance, patient safety, and service efficiency.

Location: Face to Face/Virtual/Remote Working

Salary: £200k per annum.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of skin lesions and acute skin rashes in outpatient settings.
  • Perform skin surgery to remove malignant and benign skin lesions.
  • Manage NHS‑referred patients in line with agreed service contracts, including routine and urgent pathways (e.g., suspected skin cancer referrals).
  • Deliver skin cancer services, including two‑week wait (2WW) clinics, dermoscopy, and minor surgical procedures.
  • Maintain high standards of clinical documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including GPs, surgeons, oncologists, and specialist nurses.
  • Ensure compliance with Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards, clinical governance frameworks, and organisational policies.
  • Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement, and service development initiatives.
  • Support delivery of the Urgent Suspected Cancer (USC) 28‑day Faster Diagnosis Standard (FDS).
  • Support efficient patient pathways, ensuring adherence to NHS cancer waiting time targets and local and national policies.
  • Provide clinical leadership and supervision to junior clinicians and healthcare staff as required.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and appraisal processes.
  • Provide consultant‑led teledermatology services, including assessment of referral information, digital images and asynchronous or synchronous consultations, in line with NHS service specifications and local commissioner requirements.
  • Ensure safe, timely clinical decision‑making within digital pathways, including escalation to face‑to‑face review where clinically indicated.
  • Maintain high‑quality clinical records and image interpretation in accordance with GMC guidance, BAD standards and information governance requirements.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of digital and teledermatology pathways, supporting service innovation and demand management.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

  • Full registration and licence to practise with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Dermatology (or within 6 months of anticipated CCT at time of interview), via CCT, CESR/Portfolio Pathway or equivalent.
  • Consultant level experience across the full range of general dermatology, including significant experience in skin cancer diagnosis and management.
  • Demonstrable competence in dermatological surgical procedures appropriate to the service, including diagnostic biopsies and excision of benign and malignant lesions.
  • Understanding of, and experience working within, NHS commissioned pathways, including eReferral Service (eRS), cancer pathways and relevant national targets.
  • Strong commitment to patient safety, clinical governance and quality improvement, practising in accordance with GMC Good Medical Practice, NICE and British Association of Dermatologists guidance.
  • Completion of a recognised dermatology training programme with consultant‑level experience across the full range of general dermatology.
  • Extensive experience in skin cancer diagnosis and management, including 2-week wait (2WW) pathways.
  • Experience of working within NHS commissioned services, including e-RS, cancer pathways, RTT and Faster Diagnosis Standards.
  • Experience of contributing to clinical governance, including audit, quality improvement, incident review and service evaluation.
  • Experience of providing teledermatology or digital dermatology services, or demonstrable competence in digital clinical decision‑making.
  • Subspecialty expertise (e.g. skin cancer, paediatric dermatology, biologics, complex medical dermatology).
  • Experience in service development, pathway redesign or digital innovation.
  • Teaching, training or educational supervision experience.

Benefits of Substantive Employment with Xyla Services:

  • Competitive remuneration package, reflecting consultant level expertise and responsibilities.
  • Flexible working arrangements, supporting portfolio careers, work–life balance and sustainable practice.
  • Access to established administrative, operational and clinical support infrastructure, reducing non‑clinical burden.
  • Clear clinical and professional governance arrangements, including Responsible Officer oversight, appraisal and revalidation support.
  • Opportunities to play an active role in service development, pathway redesign and clinical leadership, including digital and teledermatology models.
  • Support for continuing professional development (CPD), appraisal and professional growth within a national consultant community.
