xWatts is an energy management software company that helps commercial and industrial facilities reduce their energy costs and carbon emissions. We are backed by Antler, University of Cambridge Enterprise, Parkwalk Advisors, R42, and a host of industry expert angels. We’re now looking for a Building Management System (BMS) Engineer to help us bring our smart energy optimisation technology to life in the real world.
About the Role
As a BMS Engineer at xWatts, you’ll be a critical part of the team deploying our platform across commercial and industrial buildings. You will be the link between our software platform, our customers, and the building systems that power their operations. Your role will focus on data enablement, hardware integration, and BMS connectivity — ensuring that each building can send accurate, reliable data into the platform. This is a hands‑on, fast‑paced role ideal for someone who loves solving complex technical challenges, working directly with customers and contractors, and making a tangible impact on carbon reduction in buildings.
Your Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities
- Conduct installation surveys, configuration, and maintenance of BMS systems (primarily Tridium Niagara) and related mobile connectivity devices
- Enable building data egress and integration with the xWatts platform — including hardware, networking, and cloud comms setup
- Collaborate closely with our software and data science teams to ensure building data is structured, tagged, and validated for optimisation
- Support clients and contractors during installation, configuration, and commissioning phases
- Document energy infrastructure, BMS points, and data flows to create digital maps of buildings’ energy systems
- Lead the onboarding process for assigned buildings, ensuring successful delivery to time, cost, and quality targets
- Troubleshoot BMS communication issues, hardware connectivity, and data inconsistencies
- Train customer stakeholders on how to use the xWatts system after onboarding
- Work closely with our product and operations teams to continually improve deployment efficiency and hardware integration processes.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a BMS Engineer (Tridium Niagara required; Trend exposure desirable)
- In‑depth understanding of Building Management Systems, HVAC, and building automation
- Strong technical and problem‑solving skills, with a hands‑on approach to system commissioning and fault diagnosis
- Excellent communication and customer‑facing skills — able to work confidently with site engineers, contractors, and building owners
- Relevant qualifications in electrical, mechanical, or building services engineering
- Willingness to travel to client sites (occasional overnight stays)
- Experience with building data outputs, tagging, and integration (JSON, MQTT)
- Networking experience, including SIM‑based remote connectivity
- Experience in facilities, energy, or sustainability sectors
- Interest in AI, predictive control, and digital twins
- Good commercial awareness and project management discipline
- A growth mindset – willing to learn, experiment, and iterate in a start‑up environment
Why Join xWatts
We’re building the intelligence layer that will power the next generation of low‑carbon buildings. You’ll work with a passionate, mission‑driven team combining deep energy expertise, AI, and cutting‑edge software development – all focused on helping organisations reach net‑zero faster. We believe in autonomy, inclusivity, and curiosity. You’ll have the freedom to take ownership, experiment with new technologies, and shape how we deploy our products to the world.
