The Role

XTX Markets is a leading algorithmic trading firm which uses state-of-the-art machine learning technology to produce price forecasts for over 53,000 financial instruments across equities, fixed income, currencies, commodities and crypto.

It uses those forecasts to trade on exchanges and alternative trading venues, and to offer differentiated liquidity directly to clients worldwide.

The firm trades over $250bn a day across 35 countries and has over 300 employees based in London, Singapore, New York, Paris, Bristol, Mumbai, Yerevan and Kajaani.

We leverage the talent of the people who work here, modern computational techniques and state-of-the-art research infrastructure to analyse large data sets across markets quickly and efficiently, to maximize the effectiveness of our proprietary trading algorithms.

We are actively seeking new methods and ideas.

The models that drive our trading strategies have evolved considerably over the last 10 years, from econometric methods that gave our company its name, to trees, to neural networks, to modern deep learning architectures.

XTX Markets has an unrivalled level of computational resources in the trading industry, with a growing research cluster currently containing well over 25,000 GPUs with more than 1 exabyte of usable storage.

Teams across the firm include world-class researchers, developers and technologists with backgrounds in pure math, programming, physics, computer science and machine learning.

The firm is also constructing a large-scale data centre in Finland to future-proof its significant computational capabilities.

At XTX Markets technology is our business and we are a diverse organization which attracts outstanding talent from across all industry backgrounds.

We are focused on teamwork and our people collaborate on all aspects of the business, working openly and with respect for each other, our clients and the market.

Our culture is non-hierarchical and one where everyone is valued.

We strive for excellence in everything we do.

XTX Markets is one of the largest philanthropic donors in the UK.

Since 2020, we have donated over £350m to charities globally and are now regularly giving ~£100mn per year.

Our philanthropy is mainly focused on maths and science, including education, research and talent development.

We also support initiatives across a wider range of areas, including environment and global education.

Our Philanthropy Team has a lean setup and we strive to be highly efficient, including working at a fast pace and using AI and technology effectively.

There are four people in the team (Head of Philanthropy, 2x Philanthropy Manager, Philanthropy Operations).

We have high expectations for speed and quality of work, which are coupled with a high-autonomy, low-bureaucracy culture.

The Philanthropy Team will host an intern for up to six months dependent on the date of appointment.

The Philanthropy Intern will play a meaningful role in improving our data and operations, ensuring that we have accurate ground-truth data and are using it efficiently to improve the quality of our grant-making relationships.

This is not a technical role - i. e. you will not be doing any coding - but it will suit someone who is good with data, has a strong attention to detail, and can balance pragmatic and systemic thinking.

  • Data infrastructure, including reconciliation of ground-truth data and database uploads.
  • Grant administration, including contractual obligations, payments, monitoring and reporting.
  • Operational development including AI, automation and other technologies and workflows.
  • Other philanthropy activities and ad hoc duties.

You will be driven, efficient and very comfortable in a high-performance, high-autonomy environment.

Being able to work at high speed is essential.

You will need to actively seek and apply feedback on performance.

  • We are particularly looking for candidates with the following characteristics and skills:
  • Driven to excel in a high-performance environment.
  • High professional integrity (e. g. candour, discretion, transparency).
  • Confident, hardworking and resilient (e. g. working independently and at pace).
  • Highly organised and pragmatic, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient in data handling and analysing data.
  • Interested in the application of new technologies.
  • Timeline

Applications will close on the 16th August 2026.

If your application is shortlisted and the team would like to move forwards with an interview, you will hear back from us on 17th August or sooner.

Process

Longlisted candidates will be invited for 2 x 30-minute remote interviews with members of the Philanthropy Team.

Shortlisted candidates will progress to an interview with the Head of Philanthropy, and potentially others from across the firm.

We would like the successful candidate to be able to start within a few weeks of completing the interview process.

Please note

XTX Markets does not run a graduate scheme, and successful completion of an internship does not necessarily result in a permanent role upon completion.

We offer internships to provide insight into the workings of a leading algorithmic trading firm and philanthropy function.

The salary for this role is fixed at £45,000 annually, pro-rated.
