About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Developer with experience in developing scalable PHP based applications. The successful candidate will work within one of our development teams focused on developing the Xtremepush engagement platform. Core technologies include PHP (Laravel), MySQL (SingleStore) and AWS. The ideal candidate will be a proactive and driven individual, who excels at understanding and working on complex technical solutions requiring performance and optimisation at scale. This is a hybrid role (2 days in the office).

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate, test, and resolve technical problems, working closely with other engineers to deliver core product functionality.
  • Act as a member of the team, scoping requirements, carrying out peer review of code, developing product, resolving bugs and contributing to the overall velocity.
  • Work closely with the product team to understand the vision and translate the vision into engineering product requirements that can be executed.
  • Be particularly aware of non-functional requirements, such as performance, security, architecture, queueing, and ensure these considerations are taken into account when scoping technical work.
  • Support junior members of the team via tech review and mentoring.
  • Ensure best practices are kept, and suggest improvements to our development processes where you see gaps.

Your Experience and Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in a software development role using PHP.
  • 2+ years experience working with high-performance systems, and solving complex engineering problems at scale (our platform processes ~1 Trillion events per year).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain complex technical solutions simply to others.
  • Knowledge of OOP/development patterns and best practices, and a good understanding of when to use them (i.e. DRY, SOLID principles, etc.).
  • Understanding of distributed systems design – including asynchronous tasks, event driven architecture, scheduling, caching, queue processing.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of sports, gaming, and betting concepts (markets, odds, events, outcomes).
  • Experience with Cloud and DevOps technologies (AWS, Terraform, CI/CD etc.).
  • Interest or experience with marketing technologies.
  • Interest or experience with big data, data analytics, AI and machine learning.

Location: Ireland (Dublin) or UK (London or Milton Keynes)
