Xtravirt is a UK leader in private cloud consulting and managed services, specialising in VMware Cloud Foundation and VMware-based digital infrastructure. For over 18 years, Xtravirt has supported enterprises across multiple sectors with the design, delivery and ongoing optimisation of secure, scalable and efficient private cloud environments. Recognised as a leading Broadcom partner, Xtravirt is committed to helping organisations accelerate their digital transformation and realise the full value of their cloud investments.
The Pre-Sales Consultant role involves expanding Xtravirt's Strategy & Advisory practice. Acting as a trusted advisor, you will shape opportunity visions, design service-led solutions, and craft compelling bids, statements of work (SoWs), and packaged offerings that integrate VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), Amazon Elastic VMware Service (EVS), Omnissa Horizon, and Microsoft Azure/Entra capabilities. Partnering with sales, marketing, and delivery teams, you will translate complex architectures into clear business outcomes, influence C-level stakeholders, and drive customer-centred success from discovery through contract signature and delivery hand-off.
The role demands equal measures of technical depth, commercial acumen, and storytelling flair. You will maintain thought leadership by tracking VMware releases and hyperscale advancements, mentoring colleagues, and continually evolving Xtravirt's propositions. Reporting to the CTO, you'll work with enterprises to modernise securely and extract tangible value from their private and public cloud investments.
What the successful candidate will be like:
- The successful candidate is an experienced pre-sales consultant or solution architect with at least five years' experience delivering VMware-centric designs spanning VCF, vSphere, vSAN, NSX, and automation tools, with complementary exposure to AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Omnissa Horizon in hybrid cloud and EUC contexts.
- Certifications such as VCF Specialist, VCAP/VCDX, AWS SAA/Professional, or Azure AZ 305 are highly valued.
- Commercially astute, they build persuasive bids, SoWs, and pricing models, communicate complex ideas clearly from engineers to C-suite, and stay curious, continually learning and sharing fresh cloud insights.
- 5+ years in pre-sales consulting/solution architecture, with a deep focus on VMware technologies (VCF, vSphere, vSAN, NSX, Operations & Automation) and related ecosystem products.
- Working knowledge of AWS (EVS, EC2, RDS), Microsoft Azure (IaaS/PaaS, Entra ID), and Omnissa Horizon for hybrid and EUC scenarios.
- Strong commercial capability, skilled at developing bids, SoWs, and value-based pricing models.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; able to articulate complex technical concepts to C-level and technical audiences alike.
- Passionate about cloud and digital workspace innovation, with a proven ability to learn rapidly and share insights.
- Exposure to FinOps, security, and compliance in multi-cloud environments.
- Experience with ITIL or agile delivery methodologies.
Unique aspects of the role:
- Engage stakeholders to capture functional and non-functional needs across enterprise landscapes.
- Craft VCF led hybrid cloud and EUC roadmaps that align with business objectives and industry maturity models.
- Construct compelling bids, SoWs, and presentations that position VCF, AWS, Horizon, and Azure as an integrated solution stack.
- Produce detailed Statements of Work and pricing models that underpin contractual engagements.
- Lead and coordinate opportunities from technical qualification through seamless hand-off to delivery teams, acting as the key VCF technical authority.
- Stay ahead of VMware releases, AWS and Azure innovation, and Omnissa EUC advances to keep Xtravirt's portfolio cutting edge.
- Create engaging collateral architecture diagrams, TCO models, and success stories in conjunction with Marketing for go-to-market execution.
Unique aspects of the person:
- You have shaped cloud propositions, not only responded to RFPs.
- You can defend design decisions in front of C-level and platform engineers with equal clarity.
- You write SoWs that are contractual grade, not "solution notes" that need rework.
- You follow VMware roadmap announcements, not after they GA, but during beta and TAP cycles.
- You are comfortable saying no, and reframing poor asks into better outcomes.
- You can design a VCF led target state, then articulate the 6-12 month path to get there.
Benefits of working with Xtravirt:
- Rewarding salary commensurate with experience.
- 25 days' leave plus public holidays.
- Private healthcare - includes wellbeing and EAP.
- Pension and death in service insurance.
- Company and social events.
- Employee recognition and reward.
- Discounted retail, travel, and entertainment.
