We are seeking a Volunteer Business Development Lead to help us re‑imagine our organisational and funding model during a critical rebuilding phase.
The View is an independent feminist magazine and arts platform centering the voices and creative work of women in the justice system. We operate as a social enterprise, reinvesting all income back into the organisation to support ethical publishing, paid creative work, and social impact.
The View was previously registered as a Community Interest Company (CIC). Following sustained regulatory pressure that restricted our ability to campaign against abusive and oppressive government policy, we dissolved the company and withdrew our CIC status. While no longer a CIC, we remain firmly committed to our social mission, independence, and ethical reinvestment model.
We are now intentionally decentralising our structure, moving away from hierarchy towards shared responsibility, collaboration, and collective decision‑making.
At present, The View relies on subscriptions and individual purchases of magazines and artwork by women in the justice system. Due to structural disruption, there is currently no income coming in, and this role is central to exploring sustainable, ethical alternatives.
What are we looking for?
- Experienced business development managers interested in social justice, publishing, or feminist organising
- Three years experience in business development, social enterprise, fundraising, or strategy
- Understanding of ethical funding and values‑led organisations
- Ability to work autonomously within a non‑hierarchical structure
- Strong research, analytical, and communication skills
- Commitment to feminist, abolitionist, or social justice principles (lived experience welcome)
What will you be doing?
- Research and propose alternative funding models, including ethical advertising and sponsorship
- Fundraising strategies (grants, donations, campaigns)
- Strategic partnerships with universities, charities, arts organisations, and ethical brands
- Contribute to the design of non‑hierarchical organisational structures that support sustainability and accountability
- Support the development of partnership proposals and funding narratives
- Collaborate with editors, artists, and volunteers within a decentralised decision‑making framework
- Produce practical recommendations that the collective can implement
