About the Role
To set, programme, edit, operate and run a range of Gear Cutting machines (Gleason-Pfauter) to produce transmission parts to the company's quality standards.
- Day to day
- To always ensure adherence to all Health & Safety policies and procedures, while maintaining a clean, safe and organised working environment.
- To carry out TPM checks, including day-to-day machine maintenance, coolant, lubrication and filtration management.
- To set, operate and run Gleason-Pfauter CNC and manual Gear Cutting machines.
- To programme, edit and optimise machine functions to produce high-quality components in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications and quality standards.
- To establish best machining methods & support the business in Implementing CI Ideas when required.
- To create and save comprehensive set-up procedure documents for work undertaken.
- To store and maintain all tooling and gauging linked to the process.
- To follow company quality procedures and ensure First Time Through (FTT) performance remains above 97% accuracy.
- To ensure all required checks are completed, including self-inspection, buddy checks and first-off inspection support where required.
- To complete all necessary job cards and associated documentation, pack components in appropriate packaging and relocate work to the next operation.
- To work to the department schedule, maintaining the inhouse monitoring system & supporting delivery by multi-manning machines where appropriate and maximising productivity and throughput.
- To liaise with the MSO to discuss manufacturing issues and label defective parts where necessary.
- To ensure any issues are reported promptly to the Team Leader or Factory Manager and documented via the 3C process.
- To be part of the personal development process and attend reviews as required.
- To carry out any reasonable additional duties as requested by management.
About You
- Knowledge
- Working knowledge of Gear Cutting or CNC cutting processes – D
- Where Gear Cutting experience is not held, knowledge of gears and splines would be desirable – D
- Experience operating, setting and programming Gear Cutting machines – D
- Good understanding of engineering drawings and tolerances – E
- Ability to self-inspect gears and gear forms to drawing specification – D
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel – D
Experience
- Time served or a minimum of 5 years’s on-the-job experience – D
- Motorsport, automotive or aerospace background – D
- Experience working with small batch production and short lead times – D
- Ability to work effectively under pressure – E
