Job Description
Job Title: Design Engineer
Reporting to: Senior Design Engineer
Xtrac is the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of specialist transmissions. Our customers include the top motorsports racing series including Formula One, Le Mans, IndyCar and NASCAR and we also supply transmissions for the most exclusive high-performance cars in the world. We are at the forefront of a once-in-a-generation opportunity as the automotive industry transitions from internal combustion to electric and hybrid and our experienced and dedicated teams are using the latest cutting-edge technology to achieve this transition.
If you have a passion for seeing your creations come to life then Xtrac may have the right opportunity for you. We are looking for talented Design Engineers to join our busy team to work within small cohesive teams on challenging projects in a fast-moving environment. You will be responsible for the design and detail of gearbox components and complete transmission systems, using the NX 3D CAD system, which you will see move from design to the road and track!
About the Role
In this role, you will be responsible for the design and detail of gearbox components and complete transmission systems, which you will see develop from design to the road and track! You will be creating and developing engineering drawings, providing guidance to the commercial and manufacturing functions and working as part of the core Engineering team to ensure a culture that delivers.
About You
You will be qualified to a minimum of BEng or BSc degree level, or equivalent, in Mechanical, Automotive or Aerospace Engineering and will have gained a minimum of 1 year post graduate experience in a design engineering environment.
You should be a competent CAD user, preferably Siemens NX & TeamCenter, with design experience with rotating or reciprocating metallic components such as shafts, bearings or gears.
The successful candidate will also have working knowledge of rotating machinery and metallic manufacturing techniques, such as Milling, Turning and Grinding. They will also display passion for design and ideally motorsport or automotive experience.
Excellent organisational and IT skills (MS Office) are a pre-requisite, and your experience to date will have equipped you with knowledge of manufacturing processes, procedures, controls and quality standards, together with ERP systems.
With a high level of autonomy and influence within your team, success of projects will depend on your excellent communication skills, specifically to liaise closely with customers and to forge good working relationships throughout Xtrac.
Just like the teams and manufacturers we design for, Xtrac employees work hard and fast so you will need to have the ability to work calmly and constructively in a pressurised, and ever-changing environment with the ability to manage and prioritise your own workload. We require initiative, flexibility and enthusiasm to achieve the challenging targets of our projects.
